THE PROJECTS:

Martin Breindl
Found and Lost
Intervention Lost and Found Box. By placing objects that he has found or bought on site on pedestals and into a gallery (Splitter Art) the artist turns them into works of art, only to connote them anew subsequently: Thrown into the Lost and Found Box near the Fischerstiege they finally end up in the lost-and-found department of the district office. From there everybody who can describe them precisely may take these objects home.

Presentation on Sept 21, 2006, as of 6 pm at Splitter Art, Salvatorgasse 10
Transposition on Oct 7, 2006, as of 7.30 pm, Lost and Found Box near Fischerstiege

MACHFELD (Sabine Maier und Michael Mastrototaro)
Wonder

While fishermen wrapped seaman’s yarn around their ropes and hawsers they told one another of personal experiences, droll stories and legends. Quite often the entertainment value was increased by elements of the unbelievable and the fantastic. By and by the term “yarn” developed into a synonym for (tall) tales of all kinds. In the project Wonder the installation of a visual lie in the form of artificial lawn installed vertically to the usual direction of growth meets intelligent tall tales.

Presentation on Sept 21, 2006, as of 6 pm, with projections on the stairway and on the wall; audience participation via the Internet

Ein Meter Widerspruch [i.e. one meter of contradiction]

“ Widerspruchballen“ [rolls of contradiction] – positive or negative patterned printed rolls of fabric with a length of 230 meters are waiting for a participating audience. Under certain conditions you can have one square meter thereof cut off in the tailoring shop at Fischerstiege 4-8/1/1. In conceptual terms 230 meters correspond to the linear distance from the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance, Wipplingerstraße 8 to the Memorial Room for the Resistance Fighters, Salztorgasse 6.
Assistance: Isabel Czerwenka-Wenkstetten

Start of project on Sep 21, 6pm, in the tailoring shop Fischerstiege 4-8/1/1
Working hours Halil Coban: Mo-Fri 8.30 - 12.30 am, 2 -6 pm, Sa 8 am -2 pm

fischerstiege. jenseits des meeres
A poster (laminated digital print; size: 230cm x 180cm) assembled of two pictures and exhibited in the shop window of the cabinet maker’s workshop Schuba (Fischerstiege 4/at the corner of Sterngasse) joins the history of the Fischerstiege to world affairs. A ship that was moored in the harbor of Hong Kong in December 2005 by anti-globalization activists is anchoring right behind the Fischerstiege and is touching the Salvatorgasse.

Presentation on Sep 21, 2006, as of 6 pm

Kurt Spurey
Winkel
The oversized red aluminum angle of 10 x 3 meters, a work of concrete art, has marked buildings in Vienna’s cityscape so far or has protruded through windows out into the urban space. Recently it was presented as the project abgehakt on the facade of the building Praterstraße 42, prior to this in the Büro für Weltausstellung, Praterstraße 42. Now it is mounted to the sustaining wall beside the Fischerstiege towering several meters above the balustrade near the Salvatorgasse.

Presentation on Sep 21, 2006, as of 6 pm

Eva Tesarik and Birgit Wie.
SCHWEMM GUT
That the River Danube has washed ashore something golden says the legend of the ambivalent Danube Mermaid: On the one hand she helps the people and warns them of inundations and, on the other, she lures children and fishermen into the water with the gold. Starting from their studio Stoß im Himmel Eva Tesarik and Birgit Wie. inundate anew the public space of the Salvatorgasse up to the Fischerstiege: parts of jewelry will twinkle on the sidewalks and lure the pedestrians.

Presentation on Sep 21, 2006, as of 6 pm
Finissage on Oct 27, 2006, as of 7 pm, Atelier für zeitgenössischen Schmuck [studio for contemporary jewelry], Stoß im Himmel 3
