Since the 1990`s political issues that refer to the immediate
life context and overarching social questions are once again
being addressed in the visual arts. Numerous art spaces have
been redefined in a way that goes beyond the conventional
art exhibition. With their activities they have become focal
points for heated discussions, urban planning measures, effects
of migration and post-colonialism or emancipative perspectives
in dealing with new media. This has thus lead not only to
the emergence of new discursive fields in the realm of art,
but also of networks which aggressively convey these contents
to the public.
For some time now the activist Daniela Koweindl and the artist
Martin Krenn have been focussing on various aspects of racism
in the form of interventions in the public space, publications
and events. Already in the summer of 2004 they initiated the
multi-part Anti-Racism Interventions project in which a number
of artists participated. They also cooperated with the Bunte
Zeitung, a medium for migrants which is sold in Vienna on
the streets, in cafés and restaurants, and designed
inserts for a special edition.

As a follow-on to this project they are now planning the
design of a poster series for bus stops and streetcar stations.
The theme of the poster series encompasses various artistic
and activist positions on the causes and effects of racism
as well as possible forms of resistance.
The various positions are to be developed in meetings and
discussions between the participants. One aspect of the general
layout is to be a reference to the website developed specifically
for this project.
The following artists and activists are to participate in
this project:
Beatrice Achalake, Ljubomir Bratic, Petja Dimitrova, Esra
Ersen, Klub Zwei (Simone Bader, Jo Schmeiser), Daniela Koweindl,
Martin Krenn, Lisl Ponger, Tim Sharp.
