Text:Space:Form is an exhibition series developed by Studio VIDOK which will take place at the Kubus EXPORT - The Transparent Space from August to October 2005. Artists from various genres will be invited to produce site-specific temporary works focussing on formal transfers of one of the aesthetic categories of text, space and form into another area. The project series comprises performances as well as light and sound installations. Norbert Pfaffenbichler from the Studio VIDOK group which works mainly in film, media art and performance will assume a dual role as both artist and curator as he has already done on numerous occasions in the past.
Taking into account the specific conditions of the cube`s construction and its exposed location within the urban setting, the works planned are to deal with boundaries and the idea of transcending these boundaries as well as the visibility of inside and outside space and the merging of private and public realms. The first project will be the "fill-out sculpture" by Michael Aschauer und Nik Thoenen - a balloon which will be blown up in the glass cube, filling the space and then making space again once it bursts. In addition to this specific effect, various possibilities of sculpture are to be explored. A soft, malleable shape, for example, will be made visible on the inside of a hard transparent cube. |

The intervention "Solokabine” by Cie. Willi Dorner will let the visitor participate in an unusual way, namely by dancing; while the outcome of their second piece, the improvisation "Carte Blanche" remains entirely undecided.
Lotte Schreiber and Norbert Pfaffenbichler have transposed a text produced by Marc Ries specially for their project to an evenly structured grid representing letters and punctuation signs as well as blanks. This grid, titled "Blank" will cover the entire cube with black and transparent segments. Their second project "S-O-S" consists of a neon tube mounted in the floor of the cube. The blinking light transmitting morse code is directed to the outside world as a call for help.
Jörg Piringer uses old-fashion rub-off letters for his three-dimensional abstract text installation ("trockentransfer" - "dry transfer") on glass walls.
In his sound installation "resonance" Andres Ramirez Gaviria will be addressing the opposition of private vs. public inherent in the cube in a both ironic and incisive way. For one evening the artist`s pulse will be audible over loudspeakers. Parallel to this, his pulse frequency will be made visible as a constantly changing pattern in real-time
In Sabina Hörtner`s installation "lost and found" the pasted light cone of a non-existing floodlight will be visible on the floor of the cube for two weeks. |
