For the project Text:Space:Form artists working in different
disciplines were invited to create temporary works of art
for the glass sculpture "Kubus EXPORT The Transparent
Space", which was fabricated by Valie EXPORT and Silja
Tillner. Although this project offers unique possibilities,
it calls for a specifically coordinated approach due to its
special location on the median strip of the Gürtel beltway.
Because of construction work for the Vienna public transport
at the Friedmanngasse bridge
the opening of the series Text:Space:Form in the "Kubus
EXPORT The Transparent Space" had to be postponed
for two months in total and, due to these delays it
had to be compressed contentwise. The project was started
in the beginning of August 2005 but already in the middle
of August it had to be stopped because the glass cube was
severely damaged. Only a small part of the projects planned
could be put into effect. Moreover, for some of the artists
involved serious difficulties arose from the delays.
The curator and artist Norbert Pfaffenbichler is going to
resume and expand this project in its original scale in the
course of 2006. In this effort he intends to both present
the already planned and also funded interventions
and add the new projects.
Projects realized:
Michael Aschauer and Nik Thoenen with the project
"fill-out sculpture" a balloon which was
blown up in the glass cube, filling the space and then making
space again once it burst. In addition to this specific effect,
various possibilities of sculpture were explored. A soft,
malleable and round shape, for example, was made visible on
the inside of a hard transparent cube.
Lotte Schreiber and Norbert Pfaffenbichler
transposed "Blank", a text produced by the media
theorist Marc Ries specifically for their project to an evenly
structured grid representing letters and punctuation signs
as well as blanks. This grid covered the entire cube with
black and transparent segments. Their second project, "S-O-S",
should have consisted of a neon tube mounted in the floor
of the cube its blinking light transmitting Morse code
that would have been directed to the outside world as a call
for help but it could not be put into effect.

Not realized projects:
The intervention "Solokabine" by Cie. Willi Dorner,
which was intended to let the visitor participate in an unusual
way in the spatial experience, namely by dancing while
the outcome of their second piece, the improvisation "Carte
Blanche" should have remained entirely undecided
was only in part realized.
Jörg Piringer
Andres Ramirez Gaviria
Sabina Hörtner
New projects:
Lena Lapschina
Katarina Matiasek
The newly added projects shall make up for the fact that
contrary to original curatorial intentions to provide
for an equal distribution between the genders more
male artists had the opportunity to put their proposals into
effect in 2005. The two female artists were invited, because
one can find links to the multifaceted work of Valie EXPORT
in their works, especially in the field of film and video.
